These are money lending insitutions that are registred with UMLA
To become a licensed money lender, one must:
Register a legal entity.
Prepare the required documentation.
Apply for a license through the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA).
Meet the capital and compliance requirements set by the law.
Membership is open to all licensed money lenders compliant with the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA). Joining the association requires a one-time Membership Fee of UGX 100,000. To maintain active status and access all membership benefits, an Annual Subscription Fee of UGX 200,000 is required yearly.
Obtain the application form from UMRA.
Provide all necessary documents (business registration, premises, capital, etc.).
Pay the prescribed licensing fee.
Undergo inspection and approval by UMRA.
Receive a valid Money Lender’s License.
A genuine lender is one who:
Is licensed by UMRA.
Displays a valid license at their business premises.
Operates transparently and charges fair interest rates.
Issues formal loan agreements and receipts.
The Uganda Money Lenders Association has established a fully functional secretariat that coordinates all administrative, training, and member engagement activities.
